RIYADH — The Green Riyadh Project, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports, launched a community planting initiative under the slogan “Active and Responsible Gulf Youth,” held on Gulf Youth Day, June 6. The event saw participation from several volunteers, athletes, and Gulf delegations.
This partnership aims to enhance community participation among young people, encourage volunteer work, and foster a society dedicated to preserving the environment.
“Green Riyadh” is one of the major projects initiated by the Saudi government. It aims to plant more than 7.5 million trees in Riyadh, increasing the city's vegetation cover to 9% and raising the per capita share of green space from 1.7 m² to 28 m², which is 16 times the current amount.
The project also seeks to improve Riyadh's urban environment by planting trees in residential neighborhoods. Additionally, it contributes to achieving one of the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which is planting 10 billion trees within Saudi Arabia over the coming decades.
