WASHINGTON — UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres renewed calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip for humanitarian reasons and an end to the ongoing war since October 7.

The UN spokesman said the UN Secretary General was "shocked and saddened by the loss of lives following the Israeli airstrikes that struck the Mawasi Khan Younis area, south of Gaza, which left 90 dead and 300 injured."

The UN Secretary General stresses the need to abide by international humanitarian law, including the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precautionary measures during attacks, and reiterates the need to end this war. — Agencies
