LONDON — The Princess of Wales made a poignant appearance at the All England Club on Sunday for the Wimbledon men’s final, marking only her second public outing since revealing her cancer diagnosis.

Kate, the wife of Prince William, arrived to a warm reception at Centre Court, greeted by a standing ovation as she took her seat in the Royal Box ahead of the championship match between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

Accompanied by her 9-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, Kate arrived at the southwest London venue in a motorcade, just moments before the final was set to commence. They visited a terrace connected to the main stadium, where they interacted with several people, including British tennis stars like Emma Raducanu.

Kate chose to wear a purple dress, one of Wimbledon’s official colors, for the occasion.

In the front row of the Royal Box, she was joined by her sister, Pippa Matthews. Behind them sat actors Tom Cruise and Benedict Cumberbatch, alongside legendary Wimbledon champions such as Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, and Stefan Edberg.

Since 2016, Kate has served as the patron of the All England Club, traditionally presenting trophies to the winners of the singles finals. Notably, she was absent on Saturday when Barbora Krejcikova claimed the women’s title.

Kate disclosed her cancer diagnosis in March and has been undergoing chemotherapy. Her appearance at Wimbledon follows her attendance at King Charles III’s birthday parade last month. In a statement before the parade, she expressed her progress and the challenges she continues to face.

Prince William, who regularly attends Wimbledon finals, was absent on Sunday as he planned to watch England compete against Spain in the men’s soccer European Championship final in Germany. He serves as the president of the English Football Association.

Queen Camilla, wife of King Charles III, had visited Wimbledon earlier in the week, adding to the royal presence at the prestigious tournament. — Agencies
