CHENGDU — At least 30 people are missing after heavy flooding hit southwestern China, state-run media reported on Saturday.

Heavy rain caused flash flooding in the Ya'an region of Sichuan province's Hanyuan county, damaging over 40 homes, according to state-run broadcaster CGTN.

Rescue teams have arrived in the area and launched search efforts for the missing individuals.

Earlier on Saturday, local media reported that at least 11 people were killed after part of a highway bridge in northwestern Shaanxi province collapsed.

The bridge, located in Shangluo city's Zhashui county, collapsed around 8:40 p.m. local time (1240 GMT) on Friday due to sudden downpour and flash floods. — Agencies
