Death toll from Kerala landslide reaches 215 as search for missing continues

NEW DELHI — The death toll in the southern Indian state of Kerala, where a massive landslide occurred this week, has reached 215, with 206 people still missing, officials said on Saturday.

The landslide struck the Wayanad district on Tuesday, prompting a large-scale rescue operation. The search operation entered its fifth day on Saturday.

Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the search operation is nearing completion.

Officials announced that the government plans a comprehensive rehabilitation process for survivors.

In the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, officials reported that 47 people remain missing after cloudbursts early Thursday killed six individuals. — Agencies
