LONDON — Mike Lynch, a prominent British tech entrepreneur and billionaire, was among the six people confirmed dead after a yacht he owned capsized off the coast of Italy on Monday.

His 18-year-old daughter remains missing as search efforts continue, according to media reports on Thursday.

Italian coast guard teams, using an underwater search robot and divers from the Italian Fire Department, recovered two bodies, including that of Lynch, 59. The search for his daughter is ongoing.

Giovanni Constantino, CEO of the Italian Sea Group, suggested that the sinking may have been due to a series of human errors. He noted that the storm was anticipated and the ship likely sank due to water intake. Italian prosecutors have launched an investigation into the incident, with witnesses, including the yacht's captain, James Cutfield, being questioned.

The exact cause of the disaster remains undetermined.

Angela Bacares, Lynch's wife, was among those rescued from the 56-meter (184-foot) British-flagged superyacht, named *Bayesian*. The yacht capsized due to heavy rain and stormy weather about 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) east of Palermo, southern Italy. While 15 people were rescued, six others were reported missing.

Among the deceased was the yacht’s chef, Recaldo Thomas, whose body was found shortly after the vessel sank. On Wednesday, local media reported the recovery of two more bodies, though their identities have not yet been confirmed.

The passengers on board the yacht included individuals from various countries, including the UK, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, France, Ireland, the US, and Canada. — Agencies
