RIYADH —
Al Nassr head coach, Portuguese Luis Castro, expressed his frustration over refereeing decisions following his team's 1-1 draw with Al Raed in the opening match of the new Saudi Pro League season.

In the post-match press conference, Castro said: "We controlled the game with 70% possession, had attacks, and won 13 corners. A legitimate goal by Cristiano Ronaldo was disallowed, and we were also denied a clear penalty despite the VAR's recommendation."

He added: "In our previous match against Al Hilal, we were excellent in the first half but deservedly lost in the second. This means we performed well in three out of the four halves we've played recently. Today, we were good in both halves, but football isn't always fair."

Castro also highlighted the psychological aspect of the game, noting that "We are focusing on improving our technical performance, and the statistics back that up. However, psychological factors, including the referee's decisions today, have affected us."

Commenting on his experience, Castro said: "I’ve been in football for 11 years, traveling across all continents, but today I witnessed something unusual. The VAR called the referee to review a penalty, yet it wasn't awarded!"

Regarding the resignation of Ibrahim Al-Muhaideb, Castro remarked "Anyone who brings positive energy to the team will be missed if they leave."

He concluded: "When we love something, it can make us sad at times. The Super Cup loss has naturally had a negative impact on the fans, but I’m confident that Al Nassr’s passionate supporters won’t stay away from the team for long. Institutions grow stronger through unity."
