8 killed, 44 injured in overnight Russian attacks in Ukraine, say officials

KYIV — At least eight people were killed and 44 others injured in overnight Russian attacks on northern and eastern Ukraine, according to official statements released on Sunday.

Mykola Oleshchuk, the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, claimed on Telegram that Russia launched missile attacks targeting the border regions of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk. He stated that the missiles were fired from Russia’s Voronezh and Rostov regions, with most failing to reach their intended targets.

Oleshchuk also reported that eight out of nine Russian drones were intercepted over the southern Mykolaiv region.

In Mykolaiv, Governor Vitaliy Kim reported on Telegram that debris from downed drones damaged 15 residential and commercial buildings.

Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin confirmed that seven people were killed and 15 injured in the region, with civilian infrastructure in Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, and Bakhmut districts also sustaining damage in the attacks.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi stated on X that the attack in Kramatorsk targeted a hotel, injuring an unspecified number of foreign journalists. He urged the international community to condemn these attacks.

The Sumy Regional Military Administration announced on Telegram that one person was killed and 16 others injured in a missile strike in the region.

Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synyehubov reported on Telegram that 13 people were injured in the cities of Kharkiv and Chuhuiv.

Local authorities in the Chernihiv region have yet to report any casualties or damages.

Russian authorities have not yet responded to the Ukrainian officials' claims. — Agencies
