Armenia and Azerbaijan sign regulation for joint border delimitation commissions

August 30, 2024

BAKU — Armenia and Azerbaijan signed an agreement on Friday regulating the joint work of their border delimitation commissions, according to the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

The ministry stated that both countries are now conducting internal procedures to ratify the regulation.

Tensions between Baku and Yerevan have persisted since 1991, following Armenia's occupation of Karabakh, a territory internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, along with seven surrounding regions.

Most of the territory was reclaimed by Azerbaijan during a 44-day war in 2020, which ended with a Russian-brokered peace deal that paved the way for normalization and border demarcation talks.

In September, Azerbaijan established full sovereignty over Karabakh after an "anti-terrorist operation," leading to the surrender of separatist forces in the region. — Agencies
