KYIV — Russian officials reported the downing of over 100 Ukrainian drones on Sunday, marking one of the largest drone attacks on Russian territory since the start of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The barrage ignited a wildfire and set an apartment block ablaze, although no casualties were reported.

Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed that 125 drones were shot down across seven regions, with Volgograd being heavily targeted, where 67 drones were intercepted. In Voronezh, falling debris damaged an apartment building and a private home. A wildfire broke out in Rostov due to debris from downed drones, consuming 20 hectares of forest.

Meanwhile, in Ukraine, 16 civilians were injured in Russian airstrikes on the city of Zaporizhzhia, as fears grow over potential new Russian offensives in the region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks and noted that significant damage had been done to residential buildings and infrastructure. He also marked the 83rd anniversary of the Babyn Yar massacre, using the occasion to emphasize the lessons of history in guarding against tyranny. — Agencies
