RIYADH —
The Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal) and the Telegram platform jointly removed 129,634,467 pieces of extremist content in their ongoing efforts to combat extremism. They also closed 14,516 extremist channels on the platform in 2024's third quarter.

The operations targeted propaganda activities of three terrorist organizations: ISIS, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, and Al-Qaeda, resulting in the removal of 35,634,916 extremist posts and the closure of 323 extremist channels.

ISIS led with 34,602,606 pieces of extremist content removed and 189 channels closed. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham followed with 768,821 posts removed and 87 channels closed, while Al-Qaeda ranked last with 263,489 pieces of content removed and 47 channels closed.

A notable surge in ISIS’s propaganda activities occurred on September 13, 2024, when 1,283,141 extremist posts were broadcasted.

These efforts highlight the enhanced cooperation between Etidal and Telegram in monitoring and removing terrorist propaganda in Arabic, part of their broader mission to prevent and counter violent extremism.
