HAIL — Moderate to heavy rains hit Hail on Friday, while some parts of the northwestern region experienced hailstorms.



The rain caused the closure of several roads and power failures in many areas while some palm trees in the city were burned after lightning strikes.



Civil Defense teams were alerted after rain waters surrounded a house in Al-Naqrah neighborhood but it was reported that there was no immediate danger to the residents.



Spokesman for Hail Civil Defense Capt. Naf'ei Al-Harbi said there were no reported cases of injuries or damages. However, rescue teams were readied in all areas of the province, he added.



Al-Harbi asked the public to stay clear of valleys and flood-prone areas for their own safety.



The public should follow instructions set by the Civil Defense, which are published on social networking sites.



Hail traffic police spokesman Lt. Col. Bandar Al-Harbi said all police units have been mobilized and are monitoring the situation. There were no accidents reported and police are also cautioning motorists against entering or crossing valleys.



A source at Hail Municipality said the municipality will cooperate with all concerned bodies in Hail and the surrounding towns and villages during the rainy season.



The Civil Defense said Qurayyat, Tabuk and Madinah provinces are expected to receive rains in the coming few days.
