Riyadh’s Sports Boulevard receives Platinum ActiveScore certifications

November 01, 2024

RIYADH — The Sports Boulevard Foundation has earned two Platinum certifications from ActiveScore, recognizing its pioneering contributions to active travel and sustainable urban planning.

The Sports Boulevard Masterplan received the Platinum Communities Certification, while the Global Sports Tower earned a separate Platinum Certification, marking both as industry-leading developments.

Spanning 135 kilometers, the Sports Boulevard project transforms urban planning in Riyadh with over 4.4 million square meters of green and open spaces and up to 50 multi-disciplinary sports facilities.

Launched by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz in 2019 and chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the project aims to enhance Riyadh’s quality of life by integrating pedestrian pathways, cycling tracks, and horse-riding trails.

The Global Sports Tower, a centerpiece of the project and the world’s tallest sports tower, will feature over 30 sports facilities, including a 98-meter indoor climbing wall for climbers of all skill levels. It will also house the world’s highest running track—a digitized 250-meter circuit with stunning views of Riyadh. This landmark building is the first in Saudi Arabia to receive ActiveScore certification.

The Platinum certifications from ActiveScore highlight the Foundation’s commitment to sustainable design and healthy living. ActiveScore, a global standard for certifying active travel provisions, rewards projects that enhance user experience and promote sustainable travel options like cycling and walking. The ActiveScore Communities Certification emphasizes large-scale urban planning and on-street facilities, such as bike lanes and other infrastructure, contributing to a more active, health-conscious lifestyle. — SG
