John Bolton warns Trump may refuse to accept election results if defeated

November 03, 2024

WASHINGTON — Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton expressed concerns that Donald Trump may reject the outcome of the presidential election if he loses to Vice President Kamala Harris on Nov. 5.

Bolton voiced these apprehensions during an interview with CNN on Tuesday, suggesting that Trump’s history of contesting unfavorable results could lead to a refusal to concede.

"I don’t think so. And I think we should be ready for it," Bolton responded when asked if Trump would accept a loss.

"Trump never loses. And if he loses, it’s because it’s ‘stolen,’ so it will be difficult,” he emphasized, calling for vigilance in light of Trump's rhetoric.

These comments follow Trump’s continued assertions of victory in key swing states like Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, despite no final results being declared.

Recent polling by CNN and SSRS indicates widespread skepticism over Trump’s willingness to concede if defeated.

Only 30% of registered voters believe Trump would accept a loss, while 73% think Harris would concede if she loses.

Bolton also addressed Trump’s criticism of former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney, attributing it to her vote to impeach him after the January 6 Capitol insurrection. "The fact is, she voted to impeach him, and he cannot get it out of his head," Bolton remarked.

With Election Day fast approaching, questions surrounding the election’s legitimacy and candidate acceptance of results continue to fuel a tense political atmosphere. — Agencies
