Xi Jinping: Efforts to block economic cooperation are 'backpedaling'

November 16, 2024

LIMA — Chinese President Xi Jinping declared on Friday that attempts to block economic cooperation and disrupt global interdependence are nothing more than "backpedaling."

Xi made these comments during his speech at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit 2024, as reported by state-run Xinhua News.

He reiterated that economic globalization remains a dominant and enduring trend, despite facing numerous challenges.

Xi arrived in Peru on Thursday for a state visit and to attend the summit, at the invitation of President Dina Boluarte.

During his time at the summit, he is set to meet outgoing US President Joe Biden, along with other world leaders, including Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

The Chinese president is also scheduled to visit Brazil next week to attend the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. — Agencies
