JEDDAH — Al-Ahli extended their winning streak in the Saudi Pro League with a narrow 1-0 victory over visiting Al-Wehda in Round 12, in a match held at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah.
This win marked Al-Ahli’s third consecutive triumph, a first for the team in the current league season.
The three points lifted their tally to 20, temporarily moving them up to sixth place in the standings.
The game’s only goal came from Algerian star Riyad Mahrez in the 55th minute.
Mahrez expertly converted a headed assist from Firas Al-Buraikan inside the penalty area, sending a powerful strike into the Al-Wehda net.
The match also saw the return of English striker Ivan Toney to Al-Ahli’s starting lineup.
After a brief absence, Toney’s recent scoring performance in the AFC Champions League against UAE’s Al-Ain earned him a spot in Matthias Jaissle’s squad.
Al-Wehda, under new coach Daniel Carreño, displayed a competitive spirit in the Uruguayan’s first match in charge. However, the team fell short, leaving their points tally frozen at nine.
