Saudi Gazette report

JEDDAH King Abdulaziz University (KAU) has unveiled a groundbreaking diagnostic service for Alzheimer’s disease. This service is through its Molecular Imaging Center (I-One) under the umbrella of Wadi Jeddah, the university’s investment arm.

This service employs integrated Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (PET/MRI), marking the first such innovation in Saudi Arabia.

The PET/MRI-based diagnostic service represents a significant leap forward in the healthcare sector, offering early detection of Alzheimer’s disease. Early diagnosis is crucial in improving patients’ quality of life and delaying the progression of the disease.

This achievement aligns with Wadi Jeddah’s mission as KAU’s investment arm to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s healthcare transformation initiatives, enhancing community health and quality of life, as envisioned in Vision 2030.

The initiative is part of the operations of the I-One Molecular Imaging Center, which produces radiopharmaceuticals using a cyclotron, the only facility of its kind in the Western and Southern regions of Saudi Arabia. The center provides advanced molecular imaging services, including PET/CT scans and PET/MRI scans, which are unique to the Kingdom. The Alzheimer’s diagnostic service utilizes Amyloid PET/MRI imaging in collaboration with Oryx Isotopes, which supplies the Amyloid (18F-FBB) tracer.
