Saudi Arabia condemns Magdeburg attack, expresses condolences to victims

RIYADH/MAGDEBURG Saudi Arabia has condemned the tragic attack at a bustling Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg, Germany, where a car plowed into the crowd on Friday evening, killing at least two people and injuring over 60 others.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and solidarity with the German people during this difficult time.

Saudi Arabia also reiterated its firm stance against all forms of violence and offered its sympathies to the government and people of Germany, wishing a swift recovery for the injured.

According to German authorities, the attack occurred at around 7 p.m. when the Christmas market was crowded with holiday shoppers.

A car deliberately barreled into the market, killing an adult and a toddler, and leaving at least 15 people seriously injured.

Authorities warned that the death toll could rise due to the severity of some injuries.

The driver was arrested at the scene. Verified footage shared by German media showed the suspect’s arrest, with police officers subduing him at gunpoint on a nearby walkway. — SG with inputs from Agencies
