KUWAIT CITY — Oman head coach Rasheed Jaber is confident that the smallest details and mental strength will determine the outcome of their Khaleeji Zain 26 semi-final showdown against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday night.

The match kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at the Jaber Al-Mubarak International Stadium in Kuwait.

The 2023 finalists have had an impressive campaign, topping Group A with a victory over Qatar and draws against Kuwait and the UAE.

They now face a rejuvenated Saudi side that has gained momentum since their opening defeat to Bahrain.

“The match will be a very tough semi-final,” Jaber said during the pre-match press conference.

“We respect Saudi Arabia. They have distinguished players and a big history. But our players must concentrate for the full 90 minutes, as this match will be decided by small details and mental strength.”

Saudi Arabia’s fans have been a dominant presence throughout the tournament, filling the 57,000-seat Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium during their final Group B decider against Iraq.

Tuesday’s semi-final, however, will take place at the smaller Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium, which accommodates 15,000 spectators.

Jaber assured that his team remains unfazed by the prospect of being outnumbered in the stands.

“Our team is well-organized and has handled all matches well. We need to play to our strengths and stop Saudi’s game. We’re used to playing in front of large home crowds, so this won’t affect us.”

Despite injuries affecting their preparations, Jaber expressed full confidence in his squad’s ability to win their third Gulf Cup title, the last of which came in 2018.

“Irrespective of our line-up, I trust all of my players. Our target is to qualify for the final after all the effort we’ve put in. We are ready for 90 minutes, extra time, or even penalties. Mental focus will be key.”

In the other semi-final, hosts Kuwait will face Group B winners Bahrain at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium. Both matches promise to deliver thrilling action as the tournament nears its finale. — SG
