CAIRO — A Russian passenger plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Egypt on Friday shortly after takeoff due to a technical malfunction, according to Egypt's Civil Aviation Ministry. The Ural Airlines Airbus A-321, en route to Yekaterinburg, Russia, was carrying 236 passengers when a technical issue arose in one of its engines just 10 minutes after takeoff from Sharm el-Sheikh Airport. The pilot “immediately requested emergency landing clearance from air traffic control,” the ministry said in a statement. The plane landed safely, and all passengers were securely transferred to the international terminal.
