Israeli forces raid northern West Bank, impose curfew in Tammun and Al-Far’a camp

RAMALLAH — The Israeli army carried out a large-scale raid in the northern West Bank early Sunday, further escalating tensions in the occupied territory, according to witnesses.

Israeli military vehicles, accompanied by two bulldozers, entered the town of Tammun, southeast of Tubas, and Al-Far’a refugee camp, imposing a curfew on both areas.

Witnesses reported that Israeli soldiers forced families out of their homes in Al-Far’a camp and repurposed the buildings as military outposts.

The Palestinian official news agency Wafa confirmed the Israeli incursion, while the Palestinian Red Crescent Society accused Israeli forces of preventing its medics from evacuating a sick Palestinian in Al-Far’a camp.

Following the raid, local authorities in Tubas announced the suspension of school classes in Tammun and Al-Far’a due to the ongoing military operations.

The latest Israeli incursion comes just days after an Israeli airstrike killed 10 Palestinians in Tammun on Thursday.

Additionally, on January 21, the Israeli army launched a military assault on Jenin city and its refugee camp, killing at least 24 Palestinians before expanding the offensive to Tulkarm, where three more Palestinians were killed.

This escalation in the occupied West Bank follows the January 19 ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza, which temporarily halted Israel’s 15-month military campaign that has left over 47,400 Palestinians dead and much of the enclave in ruins.

Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, more than 900 Palestinians have been killed across the West Bank in attacks by Israeli forces and illegal settlers. — Agencies
