RIYADH — An unspecified number of maintenance workers died in a fire at the boiler of Marafiq Company's steam turbine unit in the Yanbu Industrial City.

In a statement on Tadawul site on Sunday, Marafiq Company disclosed about the outbreak of a fire on Thursday evening in one of the support units for the boiler of the sixth unit, within the steam turbine unit of the company.

The company said that the unit was completely out of service for the annual periodic maintenance work at the time of the accident. The fire was completely contained and controlled, but the accident resulted in the deaths of a number of workers hired by the maintenance contractor.

It added that the services provided to consumers were not affected by the fire. "The company is currently working, in coordination with the relevant authorities, to investigate the causes of its occurrence, and the company is currently conducting a comprehensive assessment of the resulting damages," the statement added.
