JEDDAH — Al-Ittihad confirmed on Tuesday that Dutch star Steven Bergwijn sustained injuries after a fall at his home, forcing him to miss upcoming matches as he recovers.
The club announced on its official X account: “First-team player Steven Bergwijn suffered an injury after falling inside his home last night, resulting in wounds to his leg and hand.”
Al-Ittihad’s medical team responded immediately, with the team doctor accompanying Bergwijn to International Medical Center for treatment. The winger received stitches at the injury site before being discharged.
Bergwijn has been granted a brief medical leave and is expected to return to training in the coming days. However, he will miss Al-Ittihad’s clash against Al-Khaleej on Wednesday in the 22nd round of the Saudi Pro League.
His absence comes at a crucial time for the reigning champions as they continue their push in the league standings. The club has not provided an exact timeline for his return but remains optimistic about his recovery.
