Saudi Arabia welcomes peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia

March 15, 2025

RIYADH — The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed on Friday the successful conclusion of negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, resulting in a peace agreement.

The Kingdom expressed hope that the agreement will mark the beginning of a new era of stability and prosperity.

Azerbaijan and Armenia announced that they had concluded talks aimed at resolving their decades-long conflict, with both sides agreeing on the text of a possible treaty.

Baku and Yerevan have fought two wars over Azerbaijan's Armenian — populated region of Karabakh — first at the collapse of the Soviet Union and again in 2020. Azerbaijan later seized full control of the area in a 24-hour military offensive in September 2023.

Both countries have repeatedly stated that a comprehensive peace deal is within reach, but previous negotiations had failed to finalize a draft agreement.

The ministry reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for all efforts aimed at promoting international security and stability while fostering conditions conducive to development and prosperity.
