Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — The Al-Abasa Mosque in Abu Arish, one of the oldest mosques in the Jazan province, is being restored as part of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman project for the development of historic mosques.

Built in 1262 AH, the mosque is known for its distinct architectural style, particularly its three domes. The restoration aims to preserve the mosque’s original character by using the same natural building materials from its initial construction. Inside, the mihrab, which features an engraved Qur'anic verse and the mosque’s founding date, will also be carefully maintained.

Once completed, the mosque’s total area will increase to 435.38 square meters, with enough space for 165 worshippers. The project ensures that the mosque not only retains its historical and cultural significance but remains a place of worship for future generations.

The restoration initiative aims to keep historic mosques in use while preserving their architectural and cultural significance. In the first phase of the project, 30 historic mosques were restored in 10 regions.
