Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH
Mohammed Abdulrahman Gomaa, an Egyptian child with parasitic twin, arrived at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Wednesday, accompanied by his parents in accordance with the directives of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Upon arrival, the child was immediately transferred to King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital at the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs for medical evaluation and to assess the feasibility of a separation surgery.

A parasitic twin, or vestigial twin, is a rare type of conjoined twin often appearing as extra limbs on the fully developed host twin. Becuase they are underdeveloped and non-functional, parastic twins cannot survive on their own and often die in the womb or during birth. They are extremely rare, occurring in fewer than 1 in 1 million births.

Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and General Supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), as well as Head of the Medical Team, expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom’s leadership for their humanitarian initiative, which reflects Saudi Arabia’s dedication to the Saudi Conjoined Twins Separation Program.

He emphasized the program's role in providing specialized medical care to critical cases worldwide, regardless of nationality.

The parents of the Egyptian twin extended their heartfelt appreciation to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi Conjoined Twins Separation Program, and the Saudi Embassy in Egypt for the care and attention they have received.

They expressed their prayers for the Kingdom’s continued prosperity, security, and development.
