The Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has appointed Abeer Al Akel as the Chief Executive Officer of the commission, following a decision issued by the board on Friday.

Al Akel had been serving as acting CEO of the Royal Commission since late January of last year.

She joined the commission in 2017 and has held several senior leadership roles, including Director of the Strategic Delivery Department, Director of the Information System Department, and oversight of numerous key programs and initiatives that contributed to AlUla’s transformation into a global destination for culture, heritage, and nature.

Before joining RCU, Al Akel served as Director of the Productivity Department at SABB and Senior Manager at PwC, where she led various strategic and operational projects.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from King Saud University and completed the leadership development program at Harvard University, equipping her with a strong foundation in both technology and executive leadership.
