MAKKAH — The eastern squares of the Jamarat facility, where Hajj pilgrims will perform the stoning ritual, in Mina witnessed the installation of 200 mist fans to cool the air during the Hajj season, which falls in the summer season.

These state-of-the-art, high-powered mist fans utilize mist air cooling technology, which absorbs thermal energy from the outside air to lower temperatures. Mist fans and water mist columns are used to cool open spaces.

The mist or sprinkler fans, connected to pumps and water tanks, spray cool vapor on the pilgrims and will help bring down the heat by three to seven degrees Celsius.

Water is pumped under high pressure by a high-pressure pump into special high-pressure pipes, which are distributed through tiny nozzles. The water emerges in the form of a cool mist with thousands of cold water particles to absorb thermal energy from the outside air and lower its temperature.

Mist fan systems are the most suitable and optimal for air conditioning in open spaces compared to compression cooling systems, which are expensive and consume a lot of electricity. Results have shown that mist fans can lower outside air temperatures.
