RIYADH — The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 1,847,952 amphetamine tablets and 184,001 grams of narcotic substances through the Al-Batha border crossing.

According to ZATCA spokesperson Hamoud Al-Harbi, the illegal substances were discovered concealed within a shipment labeled as "sanitary tools."

Upon undergoing routine customs procedures, including security scanning technologies and the use of detection dogs, authorities uncovered the hidden contraband.

Following the seizure, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, leading to the arrest of three individuals who were identified as the intended recipients of the shipment inside the Kingdom.

Al-Harbi reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to safeguarding the Kingdom by enforcing strict customs oversight on all imports and exports, working in close collaboration with anti-drug agencies to protect society from the dangers of narcotics.
