RIYADH – The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched a webpage for the electronic registration service of commercial trademarks (brands).



“Now there will be no need to approach the ministry in person or via a proxy or representative to make the formalities for the registration,” the ministry said in an announcement on Tuesday.



The MCI hoped that this service, the first of its kind in the Middle East, will protect the rights of individuals and businesses in trademark selection.



This will also contribute in the development of trade in the Kingdom. The ministry said that its webpage has links to all steps needed for the registration, starting with obtaining a password, filling an e-application form, and ending with trademark registration.



And if applicable the applicant will receive an e-letter from the Court of Grievances regarding his application, without any need for his presence in person.

On October 16, 2012, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry amended 13 Articles of the Implementing Regulations to the Saudi Trademark Law (Law No. M/21).



Trademark Law came into force on Dec. 4, 2002. The law was enacted by Royal Decree on Aug. 6 2002.



The implementing regulations were issued on Oct. 4 2002. The law repeals the Trademark Law and Implementing Regulations 1984.
