JEDDAH — Azizia Deccan beat Kings-XI Hyderabad by 18 runs to claim the Jeddah Premier League (JPL) Cricket Champions Trophy here recently. Put into bat, Azizia Deccan scored 109-6 in 15 overs. In reply, Kings-XI was restricted to 91.
Muzaffer Ali was declared the Man-of-the-Match for his brilliant performance with the ball. He claimed 3 wickets, besides scoring 20 runs off 12 balls. The Man-of-the-Series honor went to Kings-XI Hyderabad’s Ameeruddin Anwar for his all-round performance.
Azizia Deccan’s Minhaj was named the Best Batsman, while Rayees of Kings-XI Hyderabad picked up the Best Bowler’s award.
Twin Cities Youth Welfare Association (TCYWA) Jeddah organized the tournament under the leadership of Syed Khaja Viqaruddin.
The Editor-in-Chief of Saudi Gazette, Khaled Almaeena, was the chief guest at the final. Almaeena, addressing the gathering, said: “Although I did not witness the whole match, but the thrill generated by the Twin Cities Association could easily be ascertained from the fact that the tournament went off smoothly with full backing from each and every participant.
“Besides sports, your contribution towards the development of this Kingdom is laudable and I assure you of our full support towards these noble causes that are meant for the betterment of the community at large,” he said.
A prominent community member Dr. Syed Ali Mahmood congratulated the winning team and urged the runner-up to work hard. “In sports, one team has to win and the other has to lose, but the losing side should not lose heart, but aspire for better result the next time. That’s the spirit of the game that needs to be inculcated in every player.”
Mahmood also praised the presence of Almaeena at different community functions saying: “It is praiseworthy as it elaborates the viewpoint that we all are one irrespective of our country of origin.”
Viqaruddin thanked the players for maintaining sportsman spirit throughout the tournament.
He also thanked the audience, the guests in particular, for taking time from their busy schedules to attend the game.
He lauded the efforts of the association’s personnel who made the tournament possible.
The association’s prime objective is to explore the hidden talents of the community’s youths and to assist them.
Prominent community members awarded medals and certificates to players. Almaeena handed the winner’s trophy to Azizia Deccan team captain.
Among the conveners of the tournament were: Syed Hashmath, Shaker, Aslam Khan, Mir Meraj and Syed Mukarram. Event Manager Azmath Ali Emrani along with General Secretary Khaja Muzaffaruddin and Joint Secretary Syed Ali Salman extended logistics support. — SG
