DAMMAM — A Saudi women medical team has succeeded in conducting their first laparoscopic hysterectomy operation for a 47-year-old patient. Dr. Salma Al-Allawi, member of the team, said this was the first such operation in Dammam’s Maternity and Children’s Hospital with an all Saudi medical team and also the first in any government hospital in the Eastern Province. She pointed out that a laparoscopic operation allows for speedy recovery and a low risk of infections and complications for the patient. She added such patients are usually discharged from hospital within 48 hours after the operation and can return to their daily lives.
