JEDDAH — Each person is unique. We all have a different personality and a special way that we behave towards other people and a special way that we behave in certain situations.
Do you notice a difference in the way you talk with your parents and the way you talk with friends and the way you talk with your teacher? How do you act in public and treat the elderly? How do you eat?
Having good manners means that you treat people with respect and politeness, and that is a good quality to have.
Our religion has taught us fine manners and etiquettes for everyday life. It is our duty to learn and adopt them to become a good Muslim and a wise human being.
When you meet someone, always greet them with a smile and say, “Asalamu Alaikum,” which means ‘peace be unto you.’
We should be obedient to our parents and always listen to them with respect.
It is our moral and religious obligation to care for them and to be helpful in the house as much as we can.
Whenever you have a fight with your friends or brother or sister, be the first one to apologize and initiate a conversation.
Love them and give them gifts to express your feelings, even if it is a small gift it can make a big difference in making them happy.
You can even draw your mom a pretty picture or write a letter to your brother.
If you receive something from someone, always thank them and be grateful. There must be times when you feel angry, like if someone took something of yours without asking for permission. Since you have good manners, you will not say bad words to that person, or push him or her.
Always think twice before you speak so you do not hurt the other person’s feelings and try to control your anger.
Cleanliness is part of our the faith. So, we must try to keep ourselves clean by taking showers regularly, especially on Fridays.
Cut your nails because dirt gets under fingernails, brush your teeth at least twice a day, and also, keep your room, school, city, and country clean and tidy.
No matter how hungry you are, before you eat always remember to say “Bismillah” or ‘in the name of Allah’, and wash your hands. Eat slowly and chew your food well. It looks really bad when you talk while eating, so avoid that. Cover your mouth while yawning, sneezing and coughing.
If you have not done your homework and you think lying is the only way out, think again. Tell the truth and must probably she will understand, that is much better than making up a fake excuse which will make your teacher angry.
Always speak the truth. Allah loves the truthful person and rewards him/her. Avoid lies, backbiting, and cheating. Honesty is always the best policy. Do not say bad words even if other kids in your school do; a good Muslim never uses bad words and at all times speaks politely.
Be kind to your grandparents, parents, and teachers. Help the poor and never look down upon them. Just remember that everything you have is from Allah.
Be humble and grateful and try your best to adopt good manners so that you could become a good human being by following the teachings of Islam.
