MAKKAH — Two students received an electric shock from an exposed electricity cable of an endowment building near their school.

The students were on their way home and passed by an endowment building where an electrical cable was lying exposed.

Mohammad Al-Khelaifi, a Tunisian national, sustained minor injuries. However, the other student, Omar Abdulwahid, an Egyptian, sustained serious injuries.

Both students are still getting treatment in Al-Noor Specialist Hospital .

Head of safety and security at Makkah’s Educational Department, Ahmad Duwaid, said a committee has been set up to investigate the incident.

The committee has asked the building’s caretaker to provide a security guard around the cable, until it is secured.

The committee has also conducted a lecture for students to caution them of such hazards.

He added that a number of educational officials have visited the students in the hospital and made sure they were receiving appropriate care and treatment.

A detailed report of the incident will be submitted to Makkah’s Educational Department head, Hamid Al-Selemi.

In addition, Al-Aziziah police station is conducting its own investigation into the incident.
