JEDDAH — A panel discussion and a question-answer session on higher education opportunities gave new insight to students attending a career guidance and counseling program organized by Talent Teens Jeddah here on Saturday.
Salah Karadan, a former chairman of the Managing Committee of International Indian School-Jeddah (IISJ), inaugurated the event with Talent Teens President Jihad Kareem chairing. Ismail Maritheri of King Abdulaziz University was the moderator.
The panelists spoke on various courses and job opportunities in respective fields. The panelists included Biju T Chacko (engineering), Srikanth (chartered accountancy), Sayed Bukhari (information technology), Akbar Batcha (advertisement), Hassan Cheruppa (journalism), Mohamed Siraj (human resources management), Nasser Ithaka (business), Kassim Master (civil service) and C.T. Mansour (humanities).
In his presentation, Maritheri enlightened students on various factors to be taken into account while choosing a career-based course.
Maritheri urged students who seek higher education to explore various options in the vast avenues of opportunities made simple by information technology. Massive open online courses (MOOC) are an example for this, he said. MOOC provides students with unlimited access for participation via the website. In addition to traditional course materials such as videos, reading materials and problem sets, MOOCs provide interactive user fora that help build a community of students, professors and teaching assistants.
The panelists said what makes a course of study and career option successful is the candidate’s interest and hard work to achieve the goal. They also drew attention to the vast opportunities in various sectors, especially in information technology, human resources management, media and communications and event management.
Earlier, Abdullatief Parappurath introduced the panelists. Muhammad Ali Chundakkadan and Basheer Thottiyan presented prizes to students who asked the best questions. Lasif Ameen welcomed the gathering and Shishin Ahmed gave a vote of thanks.
