JEDDAH — Inspectors have confiscated 9,600 kg of aluminum phosphide, which is called the "silent killer", Al-Madinah daily reported. The rounds were conducted by nine different government bodies and 28 shops were found to be selling the chemical. A source in Jeddah Municipality said 14 people have died after inhaling aluminum phosphide over the past five years, including three members of the same family. Assistant head of Jeddah Health Affairs Dr. Abdullah Al-Sahafi said aluminum phosphide comes in white pills that are diluted in water and transforms into gas. It becomes fatal if inhaled by humans and one pill could kill a child.
