AL-KHOBAR — Movenpick Hotel in Al-Khobar, a five-star hotel committed to sustainability and supports environment-friendly initiatives, will commemorate the World  Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) movement, Earth Hour 2014 on March 29.

From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., Movenpick Hotel-Al-Khobar will switch off its interior lights and The Blue restaurant will serve dinner by candle light.

“These key activities in our hotel will mark our support for the global environmental campaign and will symbolize our continuous commitment for a green and sustainable future,” said Markus Marti, General Manager of Mövenpick Hotel in Al-Khobar. Apart from reducing its light for an hour, the hotel will as well raise awareness and encourage its guests to participate for a united commitment.

Earth Hour started on March 31, 2007 as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia. The one-hour activity has since then continued as it has grown to engage more people and businesses, making it a global movement.

Earth Hour is the world’s largest grass-roots environmental movement toward action on climate change.

It involves a simple action: switching off the lights for one hour between 8:30 p.m. and 9: 30 p.m. every year in March. This year, Earth Hour falls on Saturday March 29.

With each passing year, Earth Hour has become more than just an hour, more than just an action: it is becoming a movement and a platform. Last year, Earth Hour inspired concrete change in Russia, Uganda and Botswana’s environmental policies. — SG
