HYDERABAD — Seat-sharing attempts between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for upcoming general as well as assembly elections in the newly created state of Telangana came to naught. Telangana unit of the BJP on Saturday night said the party would fight parliamentary and assembly elections in the region alone, indicating that talks with the TDP to form an alliance have failed. While announcing the decision to go solo, BJP Telangana unit president G. Kishan Reddy said the party would finalize the list of candidates for 119 assembly and 17 Lok Sabha seats shortly. “We will not go with TDP,” he said after his meeting with the three-member Telangana TDP unit.



BJP national president Rajnath singh reportedly gave a nod to his party leaders to announce that they will contest the polls alone. Kishan Reddy also said that some other parties were interested in striking an alliance with the saffron party. Kishan Reddy and the TDP’s three-member committee consisting of election committee president L. Ramana, working president Errabelli Dayakar Rao and convener Motkupalli Narasimhulu, held discussions for forging a pact.
