RIYADH — The Ministry of Culture and Information has launched a campaign to block torrent sites with a view to protecting intellectual property rights.

Internet users are, however, not worried about the campaign, claiming that blocking torrent sites will be like trying to “block the sun using a sieve”.

Tariq Al-Khadrawi, director of the ministry’s electronic media section, said they would only block the sites that are violating copyright regulations.

However, according to informed sources, the ministry has so far only blocked some torrent sites.

They believed that such websites would not be an easy task without extensive help from the Communications and Information Technology Commission.
