JEDDAH – Jeddah Municipality has closed down a giant mall in Al-Sulaimania district for displaying advertisements on its external walls.

The mall, which covers an area of over one million square meters and has 450 shops of top brands, had been warned more than three times but it ignored the warnings, said Head of Jamia Municipality Hassan Gunaim.

On Monday morning the municipality team led by Gunaim arrived at the mall with heavy equipment to close it down.

Jeddah Municipality spokesman Mohammad Al-Buqami told Saudi Gazette that the mall has been closed down because it was displaying advertisements on its outer walls in violation of the regulations of the Ministry of Rural Affairs.

Asked why some other malls were not closed down even though they displayed ads of brands available in the malls, he said, “This is a valid point that we will consider.”
