BURAIDAH — The surgical team of Prince Sultan Cardiac Center in Qassim "PSCCQ" recently saved the life of a 39-year-old Saudi woman who was brought to the center after losing her consciousness while having dinner at home.

The patient underwent various intensive tests which showed that she needed an urgent open heart surgery to survive.

Dr. Yousry Almoazmy, consultant cardiac surgeon who led the procedure, said that the surgical team of PSCCQ decided on an urgent operation. Urgent investigations showed that the patient was suffering from impending rupture of a dissecting aortic aneurysm with acute aortic regurgitation.

The dissection was retrogradely extended to the coronary ostium and antegradly to the aortic arch descending and abdominal aorta which lead to renal, liver, intestinal failure and bleeding through her bowel. Emergency aortic valve and ascending aortic replacement with translocation of the coronary arteries were done. The patient responded well and is now on her way to a full recovery. — SG
