HAIL – The use of text messaging is dying out, especially with the strong emergence of sophisticated smart phone applications and their widespread popularity among members of society of all ages.

SMS messages no longer have a place in the age of modern technology and the individual’s technology needs, especially with the emergence of the fourth and fifth generation mobile networks.

This technology revolution and speedy developments have dominated the smart devices market and this culture is no longer viewed as a stigma.

Nobody expected or believed that the lifestyle of human beings will change in this way because of applications such as WhatsApp and Instagram, to mention but a couple.

Video applications are at the heart of society’s interests and attention. They can be used to initiate video chats in a matter of seconds.

Abeer Al-Salmani, a computer teacher, said: “Smart phone users are aware of the many applications available in their devices.

“The big leap that has taken place in the technology world has created a development in social networking programs, including video chat applications that display the conversation and picture of the caller fast and directly.

“Through these smart applications it is possible to start video chats in a several seconds and enjoy them.

“The means of communication has become part of our daily lives.

“Through these applications and others, we can see the world around us.”

Meanwhile, Maha Yusuf Al-Masoudi, a university student, said mobile applications have spread widely.

This has allowed users of such phones to communicate through video applications and they are no longer in need of SMS messaging, which they view as a technology of the past, she said.

Several applications display videos instantly and quickly, a feature that has attracted people to them.

In the past, society used to consider SMS messages as the only means of communication.

Now these smart apps have started developing gradually.

Al-Masoudi added: “Through the Internet world and smart phones we have got rid of SMS messages.

“They no longer represent anything for us because of the apps that we possess in our mobile phones.

“There are a number of video chat applications that enable us as individuals to communicate with one another.”
