JEDDAH — The Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) is to finalize 114 new projects this year to help Saudis who are seeking technical and vocational training that will help them break into the labor market.
The goal is to meet the demand of the Saudi labor market by providing trained locals in line with government efforts to Saudize active sectors and help nationals contribute to the development of the national economy, said a TVTC statement.
These projects, distributed throughout the Kingdom, include training centers and accommodation for students and trainers.
TVTC Governor Ali Al-Ghafis said technical and vocational training is booming in the Kingdom and expanding substantially.
The new projects, he said, have been set up to meet the demand of the labor market to train locals professionally.
He said his corporation is making maximum use of all financial support the government is providing.
Their budget, he said, is being used to develop future plans to accept the largest number of trainees.
The governor pointed out last year they started operating the national College of Excellence program.
These colleges will be able to link graduates instantly with the job market through strategic cooperation with the private sector and will provide advanced and high international standards in practical training.
Last year 10 Colleges of Excellence started operating in major cities of the Kingdom.
This year, the governor said, 27 more colleges will start operating in different regions.
The TVTC has also finalized 49 construction projects that meet international safety, quality and engineering standards.
Figures show only over a third of the 100,000 male applicants who wanted to join the corporation were accepted. Out of 29,310 female applicants, 15 percent were accepted.
Shoura Council reports also show that 11,000 graduates of the corporation are registered with the Hafiz unemployment assistance program.
The total budget of the TVTC is SR6 billion.
