RIYADH —  Pakistan patriots of the Christian community here also celebrated the 68th Independence Day of Pakistan at the premises of Pakistan Embassy last weekend.



Charge’d’affairies at Pakistan Embassy Khayyam Akbar was the chief guest of the occasion.



Speaking on the occasion, Akbar praised the efforts of the Pakistani Christian community in various sectors, especially in the fields of education and health.



"We respect all the minorities and we believe in unity and understanding of each other. The doors of Pakistani Embassy remains open for all and our embassy is fully at the service of its peoples," he said.



The program was attended by a large number of peoples from all walks of life and was ably conducted by William Joseph and Maria Joseph.



The celebrations started with the prayers offered by Emmanuel Samuel for the progress and stability of Pakistan, development and growth of Saudi Arabia and the best wishes for King Abdullah.



A variety show of tableaus, national songs, poetry, cultural heritage and a show of provincial and national dresses was part of this joyful event.



Abid Gill, a noted community leader, highlighted the key role and sacrifices of Christians in the freedom movement of Pakistan.



"Freedom in terms is the name of justice, respect, equality and unity. Today, we badly need to act upon the teachings of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah," he said.



A formal cake cutting ceremony was also held to mark the celebration of Pakistan’s 68th Independence Day. Akbar cuts the cake together with other prominent community members and the embassy’s officials.



President of Pakistan National Peace Committee for Interfaith Harmony Riyadh Region Sheikh Saeed and General Secretary Eng. Rashid Butt were also present on the occasion. A memento shield was presented by to Akbar in recognition of his marvelous and valuable services. Akbar also distributed various certificates to the participants of the variety show.



The program ended with a dinner, and vote of thanks delivered by community head Jawed Weero.
