JEDDAH — Two sophisticated UK built Indonesian navy ships left Jeddah Islamic port Thursday morning after a three-day transit.

KRI JOHN LIE 358 and KRI USMAN HARUN 359 naval ships were on goodwill and friendly visit with the aim to engage extensively with the Saudi Naval Force during their stay here. Speaking at a party hosted at KRI JOHN LIE 358 Wednesday night, Consul General of Indonesia Dharmakirty Syailendra Putra said: “Indonesia is known as the world’s largest archipelago country, consisting of more than 17,000 islands. Saudi Arabia has always been chosen by our naval ships to stop because of strong relations and is also a part of our naval diplomacy to enhance bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.

“These ships are named after Indonesia’s national heroes to highlight their national services.”

He added: “The main aim of purchasing this ship is to enhance navy force’s strength and to modernize it.”

He expressed his gratitude to the commander of Saudi navy officials for their wonderful co-operation in giving the facilities and assistance to the ships and allowing its crew to perform Umrah.

“Usually several navy ships visit Saudi Arabia and the Indonesian navy ships visit here twice a year. Though we had some training exchange programs earlier and will have in the future too, but this visit is just a good will and friendly visit,” said left Gen Abdul Rahman.

Ship commander of KRI JOHN LIE 358 Kol Antonius Widyoutomo also addressed the gathering and expressed his gratitude to Saudi Navy officers for providing good facilities.

The party was attended by officials from Jeddah Islamic port, Commander of Naval force of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia western region, media persons, Indonesian consulate officials and prominent members of Indonesian community.

Indonesian traditional dance, songs and several other performances were also held at the party.
