JEDDAH — Saudi fashion designer Siraj Sanad unveiled a heritage costumes from different regions of the Kingdom on the occasion of Saudi Arabia's 84th National Day.
Speaking with Saudi Gazette, Sanad said: "I’m invited by Saudi Ambassador in Germany Osama Shobokshi to represent a fashion show on the Saudi National Day to showcase Saudi folklore and heritage."
Sanad's fashion show will coincidence with the Saudi cultural week in Germany.
“I will present a collection consisting of 60 pieces - 30 for men and 30 for women. The collection shows the evolution of this fashion type since it started until today,” said the fashion designer, who has participated in similar events on the Kingdom's National Day in France and Argentina.
In future, Sanad will also be working on a collection that will emanate Saudi spirit but will not comprise the traditional thobes.
During the two-day fashion show in Berlin, Sanad will showcase unique heritage costume with his particular elite touches.
Sanad also said out the great efforts and follow-up of the Saudi Ambassador in Germany to present the Saudi cultural days in Germany in the best possible manner to show the true civilized image of the Kingdom to Europeans, specifically the Germans.
Sanad had thought of hosting a heritage fashion show long back for which he spent hours studying the changes in costume of both men and women. His efforts bore fruit when he was successfully in recreating each costume with a hint of modernity.
"I have participated in Janadriyah and National Day ceremonies in a number of countries where I presented heritage costumes showing creativity and artistic vision of people excelled in costume design, despite the tough life they led," he said.
He added: "Concerning my fashion show with regards to the Saudi National Day celebration in Berlin, it will be an operetta accenting the cultural and social diversity in our Kingdom through modernized heritage costume, not touching the nuts and bolts of these costumes. I wish my designs would echo the rich historical heritage of our country."
