JEDDAH — All streets, squares, schools and government agencies all over the Kingdom were decorated with green flags to mark Saudi Arabia's 84th National Day.
In the Eastern Province, the department of landscaping in the municipality decorated all streets, squares, parks, beaches and corniche area with three million flowers to celebrate the event and the approaching Eid Al-Adha holidays.
Ninety inmates of the Social Protection Center in Dammam celebrated the event which had several segments including a horse show as well as a modified car show.
In Al-Qatif, a festival was organized on the occasion and there were poetry and plastic art contests with prizes given to winners.
Girls' and health colleges in Dammam marked the event by holding various activities and programs. A pavilion focused on the history of the kings who ruled the Kingdom and their achievements.
In Riyadh, education authorities asked all schools to hold an event called "I sing for my country". Teachers will select poems from the Ministry of Education's website and use the social media sites to come with creative ideas to enrich the curricula.
Over 10,000 students from all schools in Riyadh participating in making a 250-meter-long painting, which will be dubbed "Mission of a Home Country". The Saudi Commission of Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) in Riyadh distributed various gifts to school students, according to manager Saad Al-Mahana. "The gifts were aimed at reminding students of the glory of the unification of this country and how the Kingdom has developed and progressed ever since it was founded and how it has taken great strides in various fields," Al-Mahana said.
Uhud Rufaidah Municipality raised a 300-meter-long and 200-meter-wide flag and put up flags on all squares and streets. In Najran, citizens thronged to the car accessory shops and bookshops to buy Saudi flags and green paints to celebrate the event in their own way.
Muhammad Al-Maqbook, a citizen, never lets a National Day event pass by without painting his car green. He believes it is a national duty and other citizens should follow in his footsteps. Families and children flocked to the markets to buy green clothes and flags as well.
In Jazan, children dressed in white and green clothes to express their natural love for their country. In Asir, schools implemented programs and events to mark the important occasion. They focused on reminding students of their duties toward their country, enhance their national identity, raise their awareness about the accomplishments made their homeland. Bisha Municipality put up colored lights on its streets and put up green signs and flags everywhere.
