Brigitte Bardot: 'MeToo' actresses are 'hypocritical'
PARIS - Former French actress and sex symbol Brigitte Bardot said in an interview published Saturday that she thinks most actresses protesting sexual harassment in the film industry are "hypocritical" and "ridiculous" because many play "the teases" with producers to land parts. The star of "And God Created Woman" also said in the interview with weekly Paris-Match magazine that in her view, so many actresses are coming out with sexual misconduct allegations "so that we talk about them."Bardot, 83, is the second French film legend to distance herself from the worldwide protest movement against sexual misconduct, known as the #MeToo campaign. Last week, Catherine Deneuve signed a collective op-ed that said "insistent or clumsy hitting-on...

Autopsy: Tom Petty died of accidental drug overdose
NEW YORK - Tom Petty died last year because of an accidental drug overdose that his family said occurred on the same day he found out his hip was broken after performing dozens of shows with a less serious injury. His wife and daughter released the results of Petty's autopsy via a statement Saturday on his Facebook page, moments before coroner's officials in Los Angeles released their findings and the rocker's full autopsy report. Dana and Adria Petty say they got the results from the coroner's office earlier in the day that the overdose was due to a variety of medications. The coroner's findings showed Petty had a mix of prescription painkillers, sedatives and an antidepressant. Ice packs: Cigarette smugglers find frozen route to Lithuania
VILNIUS - Tobacco smugglers are using river iceflows and GPS technology to transport their goods into Lithuania, where an estimated one in every six cigarettes smoked in 2016 was illegally imported. The Baltic country's border guard said on Saturday it had found thousands of packets of cigarettes attached beneath blocks of ice on the river Neris, which runs into Lithuania from Belarus, since the ice began flowing two weeks ago. Around 1,000 packs were found last week and another 1,500 packs on Friday. The iceblocks carried GPS trackers to aid retrieval. "This is the first time we find cigarettes underneath the ice. However, smugglers continuously attempt to use that stretch of the river," said border guard spokesman Rokas Pukinskas. "The imagination of these people knows...

British biscuit lovers hit by Brexit squeeze
LONDON - A much-loved British biscuit has fallen victim to the Brexit-linked slump in the pound, as McVitie's Digestives on Saturday said their packets will shrink. Packets of the quintessentially British brand will be cut from 500 to 400 grams this month, after the weakened pound ramped up import costs. "The rising cost of ingredients and changes in the exchange rates means it has become more expensive to bake our products," said Nick Bunker, UK and Ireland managing director of Pladis which owns the brand. Britain's decision in 2016 to leave the European Union led to a sharp drop in the value of the pound against the euro and dollar. The sweet wheaty biscuit is a British staple, often dunked into a cup of milky tea, and is sold internationally. "It would appear that...

BELFAST, Maine - Police in Maine have accused a man of punching himself in the face three times to avoid a sobriety test. Police in the town of Belfast say they found 27-year-old Brian Fogg in his car, stuck in a ditch last week. WGME-TV reports police said when they tried to test for his blood-alcohol level, Fogg punched himself in the face, causing himself to bleed. Police tended to his injuries instead of giving him the test, but later charged him with operating under the influence, falsifying physical evidence and criminal mischief. - AP

K-pop superstars BTS have gone viral again -- thanks to fan fiction. Not just any fan fiction, though. Outcast is a horror fanfic that doubled as an interactive game on Twitter. The cross-genre phenomenon is the latest peg in the domination of the boy band’s fandom, called ARMY, on Twitter. Outcast incorporates a fandom-wide choose-your-own-adventure storyline, as fans were encouraged to vote on a poll every night for five nights (along with a bonus storyline on a sixth night), deciding how each cliffhanger resolves itself. It’s like Twitch for fan fiction. The game started on Jan. 3, and the bonus night wrapped up on Jan. 8. Main rapper Suga is the protagonist who, along with best friend J-Hope, downloads a game called Outcast. The two control characters suspiciously named after...
