Saudi Gazette report

SOME 2.5 million smart electronic meters will be installed in the coming three years in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors. This is part of a contract awarded by Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to a national company on Wednesday, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said.

The first stage is scheduled to begin within two months and it will take three years.

Within five years, all current electricity meters will have been replaced by smart ones.

This comes within the efforts of Saudi Electricity Company to raise credibility of the distribution networks and reach the highest levels of precision in recording consumption, developing service quality, improving client satisfaction and achieving an ideal use of financial resources.

Installation of smart meters will cover all subscribers, the SEC said.

The company is shifting its focus to modern technology. The goal is also to protect the electricity network systems from hacking as well as contributing to the ideal use of energy.
