Saudi conjoined twins to be separated today

RIYADH — In line with the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, the operation to separate Saudi conjoined twins Sheikha and Shumukh will be performed on Thursday at King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children in King Abdulaziz Medical City.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, supervisor general of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and head of the surgical team, expected the surgery to take 12 hours and to be carried out in eight stages, with participation of 30 doctors and specialists as well as technicians and nursing staff.

He expected this to be the 46th successful surgery to separate conjoined twins in the Kingdom under the Saudi humanitarian program, which has served 21 countries on three continents so far. — SG/SPA
